SLACC

Blending the arts and economics for a more vibrant community.
St. Louis Arts Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit whose mission is to support the cultural artistic fabric of their community by working with residents to address neighborhood needs through the creative use of skill and skillful use of creativity. Through creative placemaking, exhibitions & performances, and professional development, SLACC seeks to create sustainable projects that benefits communities development.
Project Summary

SLACC required a major website overhaul. Prospective donors and volunteers had expressed that the site felt dated and had a confusing UI/UX, potentially resulting in lost donations and sponsors. I initially contributed to the project by suggesting additional staffing to work on new mockups and providing technical support. Working around budget/technology limitions, it was decided that I would create a custom Wordpress theme, revamp the companies' top performing pages, and develop additional features throughout the site.
The Technicals

Redesign. Rebuild. Real Impact. Powered by Wordpress.
The original site was built by the founder of SLACC on Wordpress. Over time, the site became an amalgamation of conflicting plugins, abandoned pages and messy shortcodes, resulting in a dated feeling website that potentially drove away prospective volunteers and donors.
A new designer was brought on to bring life to the website and drive the nonprofit's mission statement into visual design. The new theme was built on a staging instance on Bluehost, and is a child theme branched from the "storefront" ecommerce theme. Changes to both staging and production were made via SFTP using Cyberduck. Various plugins and abandoned pages were cleaned up/removed in the process. Additional blog and page templates were added to allow non-technical staff to easily add content to the site.
